How to Adopt

Our adoption process is sometimes lengthy, as we place our number one priority on finding safe, loving homes for our boys and girls.   On average, it take anywhere from 3 days to two weeks to complete your application review and home visit, especially if you live out of the area (over an hour away).

To apply to adopt one of our beautiful Danes, please click on our Adoption Application located below and fill it out COMPLETELY.   Missing or deleted information may result in you being rejected for approval.   Please be honest in all your information as it will help us decide which dog may be best suited for your home and lifestyle.

After we receive your application, it will be reviewed by the Adoption Coordinator and you may be contacted regarding any questions or concerns we may have.   Please be patient as it may take up to three days for you to be contacted. We will also contact your Veterinarian and your personal references.   If you do not recieve a call or email regarding your application, please email us at rebecca@majesticgiantsrescue.com

If your application is approved, we will attempt to arrange a time for a representative of MGR to come to your home for a Home Visit.   We ask that all members of the household be present during the visit. If you are applying for a specific Dane, we will make every effort to bring that Dane with us on our visit, so that you may see how he or she interacts with everyone in the home.

If everything looks satisfactory, you will be given 48 hours to "sleep on it" and decide for certain if that Dane is for you. We encourage you not to make the decision lightly, as a Dane is a BIG responsibility and is a true friend for life.

Once you choose to adopt your Dane, you will need to make arrangements either with the Foster Parent of your dog or with the Adoption Coordinator for a time and location to come and adopt your new family member.   We encourage you to finalize the adoption at one of our many weekend events, such as our Meet and Greet every other Saturday.

We may follow up with you repeatedly during the first few weeks after adoption, as everyone experiences some adjustment issues.   We can offer training advice, support, and vet recommendations to help you learn about the best way to interact with your new friend.   Beyond that, we will contact you with invites to special gatherings, reunions, or events.   We will also send you a card annually on the date of your dog's adoption.   It is your reminder to keep the rescue updated with your correct address and contact information, and to notify us in the event of the illness or death of your Dane.

We love to hear from our adopters and to receive pictures or videos of how our Danes are doing in their new homes.   We often get personally attached to these guys, and it can be really hard to let them go, even to the best homes.
